The School Day

8:45am School Starts

10:45am Break

12noon Lunchtime

3:10pm School Day Ends

Morning

The bell rings at 8:45am each morning. We will meet you and your child on the playground near the shelter. We all line up and walk into school together. For the first few weeks, we welcome parents into school with your child to help them get to know the routine and settle into our classroom. After this we’ll line up and walk into school as a class.

If you have anything you would like to discuss with us, we are always on the playground from 8.40am or you can leave a message at the office. If you need a longer discussion, please ask us or the office for an appointment.

Cloakroom

We have our very own cloakroom and each child has their own peg. It has a photograph of your child and their name. Please help your child to find it on their first day. Please hang coats and wellies on the peg (more about wellies later!).

Fruit Snack

Fruit is provided free of change by the government for children until the end of Year 2. This is to encourage them to have a healthy snack throughout the day. We have ‘free-flow’ access to the snack.

Dinners

Your child is entitled to a free school meal until the end of Year 2. If you would like to take advantage of this, you need to book school dinners via Parent Pay by the Thursday of the week before. We can’t set up a Parent Pay account until your child’s first day so for the first week, you can order your dinners on your first morning or bring a packed lunch. If you would like any support with this at any time, please contact the office.

We have lunch in the first hall and then we get to go and play on the Key Stage 1 playground.

Each day there is a choice of three cooked dinners: at least one is always vegetarian and there is always a jacket potato option with cheese, beans or tuna. There is a dessert, fruit or yogurt with a selection of toppings. Children can also choose from the salad bar regardless of which dinner they choose. We highly recommend school dinners - our lunch team create some amazing dinners!

Afternoon

Our school day ends at 3.10pm. We leave from the courtyard near Scarcroft Green. We will be sending home a yellow collection card. We can only let your child go home with someone on the yellow collection card so please put as many names as you are happy to collect your child, including Mum and Dad.

Please let us know if you would like someone not on your child's yellow collection card to collect them on the day either in person before school or by telephoning the office. If you know you’re going to be late, please telephone school so we can reassure your child. After 3.20pm, please go to the office to collect your child.

Forest Schools

We are very lucky to have access to the Forest School site at Millthorpe Secondary School. You will have been asked to give your permission for your child to visit this on their admission form. We will go to the forest most weeks on either a Monday or Thursday. Please could you provide your child with a pair of wellies in a bag which can stay in school on their peg.

Physical Education (PE)

All Reception children do PE every week once a week. We won’t be doing this for the first few weeks so we’ll let you know the day and when we plan to start.

On our PE day, please come to school wearing your PE kit and you can stay in this all day (no need to get changed). Most of the year, you will need to wear a white t-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms, black sweatshirt (zips are okay) and trainers. When the weather is warmer, you may want to wear black shorts. Please remember long hair should always be tied back.
