Why teach RE?
The principal aim of RE is to engage pupils in systematic inquiry into significant human questions which religion and worldviews address, so that they can develop the understanding and skills needed to appreciate and appraise varied responses to these questions, as well as develop responses of their own.
How does RE contribute to our school vision, CHIRP?
‘RE explores big questions about life, in order to find out what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that pupils can make sense of religion and worldviews, and reflect on their own ideas and ways of living.’
How is RE taught at Scarcroft Primary School?
The school teaches RE in line with the legal requirement, by following the agreed syllabus of The City of York (2021-2026). The IMPACT of this is that the children are given the opportunity to enhance their own spiritual, moral, social and cultural development whilst given the teaching tools to recognise the right for people to hold different beliefs within an ethnically and socially diverse society.

Everyone meet Brierley - our new school mascot! Named after the architect Walter Brierley responsible for Scarcroft Primary School itself, and made from a school jumper by our very own Mrs De Simone! Isn't she clever!
