Challenge 1: The British Isles

Our topic this term is the British Isles. What do you know already about the British Isles? Write everything you know around the outside of a blank map of the British Isles (download below).

Watch this class clip to learn more: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/geography-ks1--ks2-the-united-kingdom/zhtgrj6 Or why not see if you have an atlas at home – this is a special name for a book of maps.

Look back at your map of the British Isles – can you label the different countries, seas and capital cities. Can you find York?

What were you most amazed to discover about the British Isles? Write us a sentence about this on the bottom of your map. Remember your capital letters, finger spaces and full stops!

Challenge 2 - Our Families

Continuing our British Isles topic, can you remember the names of the different countries that make up the British Isles? What about the seas and capital cities?

Now have a look at a map of the world. Can you locate the British Isles on the world map? Discover more about the world by watching: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/geography-ks1--ks2-the-world/zkk6t39

Have a look at your map of the world and the map of the British Isles? Ask you family where were you born? Find out about where different members of your family were born. Who was born the furthest from York? Can you label them all on the map.

Write us a sentence telling us where you were born and where you live now. Are they the same or different? Why not write a whole paragraph telling us about your family? Remember your capital letters, finger spaces and full stops!

Please send us a photo of your finished map.
