Tuesday 12th January - Writing/Geography

This week we’re going to be investigating our home city of York. To start this, read the ‘Teddy’s Day Out’ story below. Use the photos and questions to help you retell the story to your family. Can you use the story map attached below to draw and label each place the Teddy visits?

Please send us a photo of your completed story map. Please let us know if you’re happy for this to go on our webpage gallery.

Wednesday 13th January - PE

This week's challenge is:

Mad Dash

  • Set up a start and finish line
  • Challenge yourself to think of 3 ways of getting from the start to the finish
  • Try out the different methods
  • What is the quickest way from the start to the finish?
  • What was the slowest way from the start to the finish?
  • Once you have experimented you can race. Use a handicap system for different age children. Older have to use slowest method and younger fastest.

STEP variations

S - Make the course a route through the house or the garden

T - Place obstacles or challenges on the track (dressing up is always a winner!)

Thursday 14th January – Geography

We’ve discovered that York is a city in a group of islands known as the British Isles, but what do you know about York? Write a list of everything you already know.

Then download the powerpoint below to discover more about the city we live in.

Which is your favourite York landmark? Can you find facts out about it? Write these down in sentences and send us a photo. Please let us know if you’re happy for this to go on our webpage gallery.

Friday 15th January – Art

Can you create a piece of artwork based on your favourite York landmark? What media will you use? Pencil, crayon, oil pastel, paint, collage? Or a mixture? Let your creativity show!

Please send us a photo of your artwork. Please let us know if you’re happy for this to go on our webpage gallery.

In school we are being inspired by famous artist L.S. Lowry:

This is a step by step guide to how we are making mixed-media artwork in school. We used oil pastels, tissue paper to collage, paper and pencil.
