Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is the title of a specific type of funding allocated to schools directly from the government. The funding is based on the number of pupils in each school who receive Free School Meals, on the basis that this is a method of calculating the number of families who are on low levels of income.

Each school is expected to spend this funding in ways that will directly benefit those pupils, while also ensuring that any funded projects do not discriminate against other pupils at the school. National statistics have shown that pupils from low income families are less likely to achieve high academic results and this funding seeks to address this gap between the performance of different groups of pupils.
